LUTHERIE EXHIBITIONS

The exhibition aims to bring together Portuguese and international professional luthiers to present their work, share knowledge and provide musicians and all those interested in the art of Lutherie and music with an exchange of experiences on craftsmanship, sound evaluation and the possibility of listening and comparing instruments in a high-visibility environment. All this within our mission to promote knowledge and culture.

Born in 1995, Robin completed a four-year apprenticeship at the Hallstatt School of Arts with distinction at the age of 19. His final work, a lute, was awarded the “Best Instrument” prize, solidifying his passion for creating stringed instruments and fingerings. Throughout his professional career, he worked in renowned workshops such as Tomáš Kaiser’s in Bratislava and Jürgen Manthey’s in Leipzig, where he produced violins, violas and cellos.
After obtaining the master craftsman certificate with distinction in 2020 in the cities of Hamburg and Linz, he was awarded a scholarship to perfect his skills in various workshops in Austria, France, Ukraine and Portugal. Initially self-employed in Burgenland, compulsory Austrian civilian service abroad took him to Porto, where he founded his new master craftsman atelier. In 2022, he was awarded the bronze medal at the XIII Concorso Internazionale di Liuteria di Pisogne, a recognition that reinforces his dedication to craftsmanship and innovation in instrument making. Robin Szombath is also the founder of the Paredes-Meias Cooperative.
Paredes-Meias, in common parlance, means that two houses share a single wall, distributing the supporting forces among its various pillars. This is the name of the COOPERATIVE that we are forming in 2023. Its main motto is to develop socio-cultural projects as a team, whether they are cooperators, partners or communities. Developing current ways of realizing knowledge, exploring innovative skills and tools and making them available to all the communities around them. PAREDES-MEIAS brings together various professions such as scenography, architecture, lutherie, carpentry in various workshops and organizes workshops in Portugal and abroad. We are associated with the CONSTRUCTLAB network, an international laboratory that promotes a constant sharing of themes, experiences and methodologies with different contexts and geographies, and which contributes to enriching and deepening our own experience.
