José Ricardo Reis, Violin
He started his violin studies at the Centro de Cultura Musical with Ana Cristina Fernandes and continued them at Artave with the same teacher and Alberto Gaio Lima, with whom he completed the String Instrumentalist Course with the highest classification. In 2001 he was admitted to the Royal College of Music in London on a merit scholarship, where he worked with Natalia Boyarskaia and Yossi Zivoni, with whom he obtained a “Bachelor in Music” degree in 2005. That same year he was admitted to Northwestern University in Chicago in Professor Gerardo Ribeiro’s class. He attended masterclasses with Serguei Kravchenko, Gerardo Ribeiro, Bela Katona and Boris Kuniev. He was concertmaster of the Artave and Aproarte Orchestras, the University of Minho Orchestra and the António Fragoso Orchestra. He has collaborated with various national orchestras such as the Cascais and Oeiras Chamber Orchestra, Raízes Ibéricas and the Porto National Orchestra. He has been active as a soloist and chamber musician and has performed in Portugal, Spain, Italy and England. He regularly performs solo with the Artave and ARTEAM orchestras, with whom he has interpreted works by Paganini, Sarasate, Wieniawski and Chausson, among others. He is a laureate of the Young Musicians Competition 2001. Since 2006, he has built a teaching career at Artave, with his students winning prizes in various competitions in Portugal and Spain, such as the Young Musicians Prize, Vasco Barbosa, Capela Competition, Ilda Moura, Cidade do Porto, CONVIMUS International Violin Competition, Marília Rocha, “Santa Cecília” International Competition, “Cidade do Fundão” Competition, “Cidade de Vigo” Competition, “Eixo Atlântico” Prize and being admitted to the most prestigious universities in Switzerland, England and Belgium. In 2016 he obtained a master’s degree in “Specialized Music Teaching” from the Portuguese Catholic University.
