Jacky Wong, Piano | Maestro

Jacky Wong was the first conductor in Asia and Australia to conduct and play Beethoven’s complete piano concertos. Jacky Wong Cho-ki is the Principal Conductor of the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra Youth Orchestra. He was the Principal Conductor of the Guangxi Symphony Orchestra and the Assistant Conductor of the Hong Kong Symphony Orchestra.

Wong graduated from Hong Kong Baptist University and completed a master’s degree in piano performance and conducting at the Sydney Conservatorium of Music.

He was mentored by conductors such as Imre Palló, Kodály’s godson, who studied with Ferenc Fricsay and worked with Karajan and Karl Böhm, and Kenneth Kiesler at the Conductors Retreat in Medomak, USA.

While in Australia, Jacky Wong was the Artistic Director of the Eastern Sydney Chamber Orchestra and conducted the Sydney Conservatorium Symphony Orchestra, the Woollahra Philharmonic Orchestra, the Eastern Sydney Chamber Choir and the Beecroft Orchestra. He worked as assistant conductor to Maestro Palló on the production of Mozart’s La Finta Giardiniera.

He has also worked with the Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, the Kunming Nie Er Symphony Orchestra in Yunnan, the Pearl River Symphony Orchestra, the Pan-Asian Orchestra and the Hong Kong Professional Wind Orchestra as a guest artist. As an active pianist, Wong has appeared as a soloist with numerous orchestras in Asia and Australia. He was the winner of the Hong Kong Open Piano Competition (Asia) and the ASKM Gold Coast Open Piano Competition. His repertoire includes Beethoven’s complete Piano Concertos, concertos by Mozart, Chopin and Rachmaninov, as well as the “yellow river” Piano Concerto. He is also the regular accompanist for renowned flautist Jane Rutter, with whom he frequently tours nationally and in Australia.
